Green BDL

BDL is committed to improving our environmental performance and delivering green policies across our estate. We aim to reduce the negative impact of our operation on the environment, consumption of energy and improve the overall efficiency of our hotels to reduce wastage.

Creation of a culture of awareness throughout the company has reduced energy consumption by 13% since 2009.

Policy Management
All environmental policies are upheld throughout a hotels development process. A set criterion for environmental management of all new builds, and a company environmental audit is carried out at each site bi-annually.

Our corporate group environmental committee and hotel based environmental teams implement our Environmental Strategy, including measures such as the reduction of electricity consumption in our hotels through low energy lamps and fittings, placing time clocks on equipment, fitting motion sensors, etc.

Fitting of water conserving shower heads, water saving aerators on taps, PIR sensors on urinals, etc have dramatically reduced consumption of water in our hotels. BDL has a group wide linen management system to reduce use of unnecessary chemicals and energy.

A strict recycling policy is in place where all hotels recycle the following items - cardboard, paper, magazines, cooking oils, glass, printer cartridges, light bulbs, electrical goods and cans.

In its commitment to the environment and energy efficiency BDL have introduced the Green Hotel of the year award and all BDL hotels are members of the Considerate Hoteliers.

Case Study: Ramada Encore Doncaster
At Ramada Encore Doncaster, the hotel has used approximately 600 litres of rainwater since April 2011 thanks to an Active Grey Water Recycling System installed during the hotel build.

This system saves consumption of mains water and allows the hotel to utilise rain water for use in the hotel. A system of gullies and downpipes collect rain water which is then filtered and cleaned using UV light. 

This is just one example of how BDL Management is committed to energy reduction across our hotels in the UK.
